SBS Battery Racks

The SBS modular rack system can be specified to accommodate any battery cell or jar. From flooded to sealed, from lead-acid to nickel-cadmium, from vertical to horizontal mounting, a high density space saving rack can be provisioned. Whether for an SBS product, or one from any other manufacturer, an appropriate rack system can be sized for you by SBS.
All SBS racks are epoxy coated with a rubberized coating on the battery runners. The system easily bolts together making installation or alteration possible. The system allows for the retrofit or removal of spill containment systems. Should your site change, move or be decommissioned, the racks can be disassembled and stored for future use or expanded to accommodate addtional requirements.
Because SBS battery racks are built in modular sections, they are easily assembled & modified for add-change-delete environments. This also means that each section is individuallyu seismic rated ensuring that any assembly meets or exceeds the seismic rating of the module.
Naturally SBS can fabricate custom rack solutions for the most challenging of applications as demonstrated by a recent application rack-mounting our GGM 2v jars on an ocean-going marine vessel maintaining rack & battery mounting integrity up to a free-standing 45° tip-test without floor mounting!

Seismic rated racks for earthquake proof battery installation
This rack system is based on the components of the standard rack system, but also includes the option to make it earthquake safe. These earthquake proof racks can be used in UBC seismic zone 4 in the United States.

SPILL CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS

An often overlooked piece to the reserve power battery system is the requirement for spill containment. This standard varies by state, county & municipality but in all cases necessitates a method for the absorbtion, capture & neutralization of corrosive acid or caustic base electrolyte for flooded wet cell lead-acid or nickel-cadmium battery cells as outlined under Article 64, Section 6401.99.1 as adopted by the UBC, UFC, NFPA & OSHA building standards. SBS offers a variety of systems suited for new installation or retrofit. Our systems employ the traditional berm-barrier with epoxy floor coating, the berm-barrier with formable EDPE polymer liner, or our exclusive SBS EconoPan® Series which is ideal for retrofit, temporary installations or use where containment is mandated for sealed VRLA batteries on racks or even in cabinets. The EconoPan® allows for a completely flexible, adjustable & modifiable spill containment system suited for new installations as well as retrofit. It can be installed without removing battery jars or racks in most cases. EDPE pans can be cut, modified, baffled or attached in virtually any shape. It is easily disassembled or reconfigured to accommodate add-change-delete environments. The system is provisioned with absorbant neutralizing pillows making any clean-up & disposal simple & quick.

The more traditional Lb system offers the rigidity of historic solutions with a epoxy coated rubberized steel berm permanently affixed to the floor. Containment is achieved by the installation of a custom tailored EDPE acid/base proof barrier-liner. This system style is best suited to a new rack installation.

The legacy Xb system employs the same epoxy coated rubberized steel berms as utilized in the Lb system above. The containment barrier is achieved via a polymer-epoxy floor coating that permanently seels the battery area from the floor eliminating any seepage or egress. This system can be installed with any new battery rack but also is well suited for application with an existing battery rack as it will not require any battery removal or rack disassembly. |

SBS offers many sizes of battery enclosures, cabinets and relay racks. They can be constructed with batteries, battery/charger combinations, and even DC distribution panels. Batteries can be installed on pull-out drawers or fixed shelves.

SBS produces a battery rack for every brand and type of battery. Whether C&D, Dynasty, GNB, East Penn, Exide, Enersys, Alcad, Saft, Power Battery or other, SBS has a rack assembly that will save you valuable floor space and allow for easy installation and maintenance. Our battery racks accommodate sealed VRLA, flooded cell as well as NiCad batteries up to four tier with Seismic Zone 4 certification. All rack systems are enamel painted and epoxy coated. Shelf stringers are topped with black polyethylene for additional acid resistance and lower friction for installation ease.
